Historic Sarasota Trolley Tour
On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, thirty-five Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club members, husbands and friends enjoyed a memorable 90-minute City Sightseeing Trolley Tour of Sarasota and experienced the unique history of Sarasota’s oldest downtown neighborhoods.
The areas visited included Gillespie Park, Burns Court, Laurel Park, St. Armand’s Circle, Lido Key, and the Rosemary Design District. The tour also featured world-class artistic and cultural organizations such as the Ringling Museum, Ringling College, Asolo Theater, Selby Library, Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, Selby Gardens, Sarasota Opera House, Art Center Sarasota, and Sarasota Symphony Orchestra.
Interesting information about the architects and developers who designed some of Sarasota’s most unique homes and buildings, like the Blue Pagoda, Crocker Memorial Church, and Splendida, Circus lore, Amish culture, and colorful stories about Sarasota’s founders provided a wonderful overview of Sarasota’s rich and amazing history.
After the historical trolley tour, many chose to culminate their adventure with lunch at nearby local restaurants. Program Chairs Regina Napoli, Monique Govostes, and Sharon Wright coordinated the event , one of a series in “off-the-ranch” trips.
