A Night of a Thousand Lights
The LWR Women’s Club held its Annual Holiday Dinner and Auction on December 5, 2012 at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. The theme was a “Night of a Thousand Lights,” and the ballroom was transformed into a magical scene of blue and silver lighted centerpieces with a circle of tea lights on each table.
This is the main fundraising event of the year for the LWRWC in support of its charities: SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy), SOlVE Maternity Home, Meals on Wheels Plus, HOPE Family Services.
A shining display of silent auction items awaited bids from members and guests. Incredible baskets holding enticing gift items were available on which to take a chance.
Students from the Suzuki Institute gave a concert before dinner and members had lots of fun adding campy accessories to take pictures in the photo booth. A wonderful time was enjoyed by all.
Frankie Bailey cited the members of the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club as the “true lights in the room” for their service and generosity throughout the year.

“Many thanks go out to the holiday committee members and chairs:
Ellie Stoddard, decorations chair, for her inspiration in interpreting the theme and its implemention;
Phyllis Fox, reservation chair, for organizing the seating and coordinating the dinner selections;
Jean Mucinni, publicity/program chair, for the beautiful flyers, programs, and photography;
Margaret Ann Fuer, raffle team leader, for selling those tickets on which the profit depends;
and especially, Flossie Paul, auction chair, and her right and left leutenants, Mary Beth Steffens and Trish Newman, and her team of solicitors, without whom there would be no auction.
And first and foremost, Mary Beth Steffens, grand Holiday Dinner Chair, for planning and over-seeing every nuance and detail of the evening.”
