LWRWC Welcomes New Members
On Wednesday, March 23, 2016, the LWRWC Board hosted a mid-morning Coffee and Brunch at LWR Town Hall to welcome the Club’s New Members. President, Shirley Taradash, opened the friendly get together with a warm and welcoming message to all. She encouraged the new members to socialize with each other and with the Board Officers and Committee Chairs in attendance.
While the ladies sipped coffee or tea and munched on an assortment of delicious brunch items, each of the Board members in attendance introduced themselves and gave a brief overview of their position, background and key information about the Women’s Club and its activities. 2015 Past President and current Board Member, Patti Wrobel, encouraged the ladies to get involved in those areas that interest them because they represent the Club’s future.
Monika Templeman, LWRWC Vice President and Publicity Co-chair, welcomed the new members emphasizing that fun, friendship and community service are the LWRWC’s fundamental guiding principles, and provided highlights of the club’s major fundraising efforts for the club’s three 501(c)(3) adopted charities. Sheron Benkert, the 2016 Fashion Show Chair, discussed the upcoming Fashion Show Fundraiser, “A Passion for Fashion” featuring clothing from Patchington in St Armand’s Circle, that will be held at Michael’s on East on Nov. 2, 2016.
Membership Chair, Barb Thornton, greeted the new members and reported that the Women’s Club has grown exponentially and is now over 350 members strong!
Program Chair, Phyllis Fox, gave an overview of the 2016 programs and upcoming speakers for the remaining 2016 General Monthly Meetings scheduled for April, October, November and December. The April Meeting will feature holistic health coach and yoga instructor, Pam Velez (daughter of the Program Chair who spoke to the club last year and was invited back by popular demand.) Pam will discuss the importantance of demystifying food labels. The meeting will also focus on the Club’s first annual Community Service Scholarship Winner (a remarkable college bound senior from LWR High School) who will be in attendance to receive the award.
Eileen Buzzard, a member of the Philanthropy Committee and Publicity Co-Chair, shared highlights of the Club’s philanthropic fundraising events (including the upcoming Mistletoe Market in December.) Eileen also discussed current in-kind donation drives, including the “white linens” donations for SOLVE that resulted in over $1200 worth of bedding and towels for SOLVE’s newest Maternity Home and the club’s ongoing clothing drive for Hope Family Services.
Shirley asked each new member to introduce herself. Although the new members come from many different places and have diverse backgrounds, several key commonalities were shared by all. Each new member joined the LWRWC because she was looking for friendship with other women and many revealed that the idea of serving the community through meaningful philanthropy was a major draw.
