LWR WOMEN’S CLUB ANNUAL MEETING JANUARY 9, 2014

The LWR Women’s Club held it’s annual business meeting at the LWR Town Hall Thursday evening , January 9, 2014.  An estimated 100 members and guests attended the meeting.

The traditional agenda included time to socialize with old and new members, the presentation of checks to the club’s 2013 charities, the introduction of new officers and board members, presentation of the 2014 program,  and collection of dues.

The club presented each of it’s 2013 adopted charities,  SOLVE Maternity Homes,  SMART,  and HOPE Family Services,  with a check for $11, 000 for a total of $33, 000. The checks were presented by the chairs of the major fund raising events held last year.

Patti Wrobel, vice president and philantrophy chair, spoke to the members and made a motion to continue the support of its current charities and earmark the funds for specific projects. The measure was passed unanimously. The club will also build “birthday bags” for the children of HOPE.

Diane Shaw introduced the 2014 Program which included a change in the club’s three fund raising events. February 26 will feature an author’s luncheon “Laugh Your Abs Off” at the Francis in Sarasota and on October 23, “Monty Carlos’ Casino” at the Polo Grill in LWR.  A booklet of calendar events was distributed to the members.

Featured speaker of the evening was Rex Jensen, of SMR (Sarasota Manatee Ranch) who spoke about “Lakewood Ranch Past, Present, and Future.”  Mr. Jensen emphasized that the Ranch’s success was due to a stable board of directors that promotes planning and quality and who are most concerned with stewardship of the land.

Appreciation awards were presented to Mary Beth Steffens for her years as vice president, president and four time holiday chair and to Jean Muccini and Frankie Bailey for their years of varied and outstanding service to the club.
