LWRWC Gets Scoop on Rowing Championships

Meredith Scerba, Executive Director for the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Nathan Benderson Park, was the guest speaker at the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club March meeting at the LWR Town Hall on March 9, 2017.

Ms Scerba gave an enlightening and entertaining presentation to nearly 75 LWR women.  She outlined details and plans for the 2017 World Rowing Championship, which will be held from Sept.23-Oct.1, 2017.

With 40.000 fans and spectators expected, and an economic impact of $25MM to our community, the planning and organizational information was very informative. In addition to the logistics, Ms Scerba explained the types of rowing boats, the parking, ticketing, security, the need for volunteers and much more. The event website is:

Trish Newman, Program Chair, introduced Meredith Scerba: Executive Director for 2017 World Rowing Championships in Nathan Benderson Park.Meredith is from Cleveland, Ohio and was the senior VP of Marketing & Operations for the greater Cleveland Sports Commission from 2005 to 2015. She was the Group Events Coordinator at the Gund Arena Company. Meredith has been involved with both National and International event racing including: NCAA WOMEN’S FINAL FOUR; US FIGURE SAKTING CHAMPIONSHIPS; USA/ITALY/IRELAND BOXING TRIAD.

In 2011 she expanded her responsibilities at the Sports Commission and became the Executive Director for the 2013 National Senior Games in Cleveland. The city hosted 11,000 athletes for over a two-week period. The event had a $36.1 million economic impact on the city.

Meredith has received many honors including being recognized by the NBA League Office for her “Best Practices” and she played a vital role in the success of the Cavaliers Group sales department setting a new NBA record in sales of $3.2 million in group tickets.

Meredith graduated from the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio where she received a swimming scholarship.
