WC Hosts the Sarasota Players Centre For The Performing Arts
The February meeting of the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club was held on February 9, 2017 at the Lake Club in Lakewood Ranch. President, Monika Templeman called the meeting to order and Trish Newman introduced the program for the evening featuring the “Sarasota Players Centre For The Performing Arts”.
Trish welcomed Managing Director, Michelle Bianchi-Pingel, and Jeffry Kin, Artistic Director of the Players Theatre. The directors, having recently announced plans to move to LWR Waterside, detailed the new location and the specific architectural plans.
The Players Theatre has been in the Sarasota/Bradenton area for 86 years and was the first performing arts group in Sarasota. They paved the way for what has become Florida’s “CULTURAL COAST
Michelle and Jeffry shared some of their personal stories as well as the logic and process that resulted in the decision to move the company from their current location in Sarasota to Lakewood Ranch’s Waterside.
Ms. Bianchi-Pingel reviewed the history of the Players Theater, the current organization and the ongoing capital campaign for the new complex in Waterside in 2018. She discussed budgets, employees, volunteers, current and future programs.
Two very talented actresses treated the audience to a number from “Sweet Charity”. All in attendance were then given a complimentary ticket to “Big Fish”, a play to open soon at the Players Theater.
A business meeting with committee reports followed the Players presentation.
