LWR Women’s Club Donates $30,000 to Charity
At their Annual Business Meeting held at the LWR Town Hall on Thursday, January 14, 2016, the LWR Women’s Club presented checks totaling $30,00 to their adopted charities.
Checks for $10,000 each were presented to Laurel Lynch, Executive Director of HOPE Family Services (an organization who works with families to prevent domestic violence); Peggy Kerwin, Executive Director of SOLVE Maternity Homes (which has been assisting pregnant women for over 40 years), and Gail Clifton of SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy.)
Prior to the check presentations, Philanthropy Chair, Nancy Wozniak introduced clients helped by each respective charity who gave poignant presentations about how their lives were positively impacted by the remarkable help provided by these organizations.
A lovely young expectant mother named Cherish, told her story and credited SOLVE with helping her to turn her life around and be ready to be a good mother to her eagerly awaited baby girl.
Jennifer, a courageous young woman who escaped from a horrific abusive relationship, spoke eloquently about how HOPE Family Services helped her to overcome the trauma of domestic abuse, gain remarkable success in her personal and professional life, and become a top producer in real estate!
The presentations concluded with the Martin family sharing their moving story about how SMART helped change the life of their beautiful 13 year old daughter Kennedy. Kerri and Scott Martin explained that their daughter suffered a head injury at her day care when she was only 9 months old that impacted her brain, causing physical and developmental challenges. Both parents expressed their sincere appreciation to SMART for teaching their daughter so much and bringing Kennedy so much joy as she learned to connect with a remarkable horse who inspired her to work hard to overcome many of her challenges. The ladies were deeply moved when Kennedy, herself, went to the podium to say thank you to the assembled audience, with her parents and younger sister Delaney, cheering her on.
Following the presentations, Shirley Taradash, newly installed president of the LWRWC, presided over the Business Meeting. Shirley introduced the 2016 Executive Board and new members introduced themselves. The 2016 Program was distributed to the members and Monika Templeman, vice president, made comments on the events planned for February, March and April.
The meeting culminated with Shirley making two award presentations. First, she recognized the 2015 President, Patti Wrobel, for her exemplary leadership and presented her with a Pandora bracelet as a token of appreciation from the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club.
Shirley announced the LWRWC 2015 Woman of the Year, Monika Templeman who said, ” I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized for my work as Publicity and Bewitching Glamour Fashion Show Chair. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the wonderful ladies in the LWRWC! The Women’s Club is an amazing organization that truly exemplifies fun, friendship and community service and I am very proud to be a member.”
