Holistic health coach, Pam Valez was the keynote speaker at the LWRWC’s monthly meeting on Thursday, February 12, 2015 . Pam gave an inspiring motivational presentation entitled “Sugar – Know Thy Enemy…Defeat Thy Cravings”.
Pam enlightened the members about the health risks of refined sugar; engaged the audience in an innovative game that revealed surprising facts about the large amounts of sugar in a plethora of foods and drinks, including supposedly healthy drinks, such as Gatorade which contains more refined sugar than a Krispy Kreme donut; and provided many helpful tips for a more healthy, heart smart lifestyle.
Consistent with the theme of the meeting – Heart Health for Women – the Hospitality Committee provided a delicious a low sugar Valentine’s Day Celebration, featuring no/low sugar cookies and chocolate dipped fruit, to support a Heart Healthy lifestyle.
Highlights of the business meeting included a presentation by Philanthropy Committee Chair, Nancy Wozniak on the 2015 fundraising goals for the Club’s three longstanding adopted charities(SOLVE Maternity Homes, SMART and HOPE.) Nancy thanked the club members for their generous donations of needed supplies for SMART that many members brought to the meeting.
She also announced that the Philanthropy Committee purchased 100 cozy spa bathrobes which were donated to the new moms at SOLVE Maternity Homes and to victims of domestic violence at Hope Family Services. Each robe cobtained the message: “Wrap Yourself in Warmth and Love”. The cost to sponsor a robe is only $5.00 each. See Philantrophy > SOLVE Valentine >>
Phyllis Fox, Program Committee Chair, gave a report on the upcoming speakers, charitable fundraising events and activities planned for spring 2015. She reminded everyone that the Baby Boomer Mysteries Author’s Lunch Fundraiser is scheduled for February 25 at the LWR Country Club.
She also urged interested members to quickly sign up for the Port Manatee Tour and Luncheon at Pier 22 Restaurant (scheduled for March 23) because the names of the participants (that exactly match their Driver’s License or legal ID) must be provided to the Port Authority two weeks prior to the tour. Phyllis mentioned that there are still several tickets available for the Spring Training Baseball Game and Picnic on April 1st.
