Night of Awards

at the LWRWC Annual Meeting on January 10, 2019 at LWR Town Hall

Over $50,000 Donated to HOPE, SMART & SOLVE

The presentation of checks totaling $45,000 to SOLVE Maternity Homes, SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy), and HOPE Family Services, was the culmination of a banner year in successful charity fundraising!

LWRWC Fundraisers included “Set Sail for Fashion” at the Sarasota Yacht Club, Mistletoe Market at the Grove, and Music of the Night Holiday Dinner Theatre at the LWR Golf & Country Club. In addition to the checks, LWRWC gave in-kind donations totaling over $5000. These included donations of Birthday and Celebration Party Bags for children and residents at the domestic violence shelter at HOPE, as well as books and bookshelves for the Hope Book Nook children’s library; handmade baby blankets and quilts (made by the LWRWC Blankets 4 Babies Committee) donated to SOLVE, and supplies and gift certificates donated to SMART.

The Co-Chairs of the three major fundraisers presented checks for $15,000 to each Charity. After each check was presented, a courageous speaker helped by the charity, shared how the support they received positively impacted their life.

Monika Templeman and Eileen Buzzard, Co-Chairs of “Music of the Night Holiday Dinner Theatre”, presented the check to Peggy Kerwin, Executive Director of SOLVE Maternity Homes. Autumn, a young mother, accompanied by her one-month -old daughter, Jade, told how SOLVE Maternity Homes enabled her to get her GED, continue her education and have a brighter future.

Kathleen Cleveland and Monika Templeman, Co-Chairs of “Mistletoe Market Holiday Bazaar”, presented the check to Brandi Ezell, Executive Director of SMART (Sarasota Manatee Association for Riding Therapy).The presenter from SMART, a charismatic eight-year-old boy named Cooper, “stole the show” with his heartwarming charm! Cooper explained how SMART and a horse named Carly made a huge difference in his life.

Patti Wrobel and Monika Templeman, Co-Chairs of the 2018 Fashion Show Fundraiser “Set Sail for Fashion” presented the check to Laurel Lynch, Executive Director of HOPE Family Services.Natalie, a courageous young woman who escaped from a horrific abusive marriage, spoke about how HOPE Family Services helped her to overcome the trauma of domestic abuse, gain success in her personal and professional life, and ensure a good life for herself and her children.

2018 Woman of the Year Award


Past President, Eileen Buzzard and 2019 President Kathleen Cleveland, presented the 2018 Woman of the Year Award to Cathy Reinitz and Claudia Dombrow, the “dynamic duo” Program Chairs, for their extraordinary work in planning LWRWC “OFF THE RANCH” excursions and monthly meeting programs.

President, Kathleen Cleveland, recognized Eileen Buzzard, for her leadership and dedication to LWRWC in 2018, and presented her with a Vera Wang Crystal Bowl and engraved plaque as a token of appreciation from the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club.

Annual Business Meeting

The Business Meeting was conducted by incoming LWRWC President, Kathleen Cleveland . Reports were presented by Treasurer Kathy Wingfield; Membership Report by Ann Sledz (“we have 338 Members”); Program overview by Cathy Reinitz and Claudia Dombrow of the programs and events planned for January February, March; Monika Templeman gave an overview of the upcoming Fashion Show fundraiser, “Fashion Regatta – Sarasota Style,” that will be held at the Sarasota Yacht Club on March 04, 2019.  The show will feature unique designer fashions from Foxy Lady West in St. Armand’s Circle.

Split the Pot

The meeting culminated with the 50/50 split-the-pot won by Robin Sathan. With the spotlight on Fun. Friendship and Community Service, the only things missing were a red carpet and paparazzi.
