Lunching on Cheesecake

On Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, LWRWC members enjoyed a terrific luncheon at the Cheesecake Factory located at UTC in Sarasota. Most members opted for healthy salads and entrees instead of calorie laden treats.

The fun and friendship was enhanced by sharing exciting and/or interesting summer activities and discovering many commonalities and mutual interests. Facts learned: that most members are dog lovers, enjoy travel and spending time with family, that several couples belong to upscale car clubs, and that all really like the fun, friendship and community service components of the LWRWC.

Although most members exhibited remarkable will-power by forgoing dessert, we all agreed that friendship is just sweet as cheesecake and the LWRWC Monthly Luncheons are a great way to make new friends.

How to Get Through the Hot Summer…

Lunch with the WC

On Monday, July 11, 2016, 35 LWRWC members enjoyed a delightful luncheon at Valentino Restaurant located at 8203 Cooper Creek Blvd at UTC. The fun and friendship was enhanced with a pre-lunch icebreaker that got good results.

Around the table, each lady stood, introduced herself and shared where she was from and which LWR neighborhood she calls home. There was a large contingency from New York, several from New Jersey and other parts of the eastern shore, and multiple members from Ohio.

In addition to discovering commonalities, the ladies were happy to meet their new LWR neighbors! It was a great way to make new friends.

The luncheon also afforded Sheron Benkert, the LWRWC 2016 Fashion Show Co-Chair, the opportunity to promote the upcoming LWRWC “A Passion for Fashion” Fundraiser Fashion Show Luncheon scheduled for Nov. 2, 2016, at Michael’s on East and discuss the plans for neighborhood raffle baskets that will be explained in an email blast in early August.

Great Italian food and camaraderie shared with friends – a delightful way to spend a summer afternoon!

The Women’s Club calendar includes lunch on the first Monday of every month.   The ladies gather to sample new and favorite restaurants,  keep up to date on club activities, and meet new members.  Lunch arrangements and reservations are made by Elaine Steinfurth.

Big Smiles at the Cheesecake Factory

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 35 ladies from LWRWC enjoyed a delightful and fun filled lunch at the Cheesecake Factory at UTC.

CCF1The food was delicious, with many surprisingly healthy choices. Most of the ladies opted for the lighter fare, in spite of the many tempting cheesecakes on display. The mood was festive and lighthearted as old and new friends shared their summer adventures and upcoming travel plans.

There was also shared excitement about the terrific events and fundraisers that the LWRWC has scheduled in the fall and winter, including the Aprons Cooking School Night Out on Sept. 30th, The Bewitching Glamour Fashion Charity Fundraiser Gala at Michael’s On East on Oct. 28th, the presentation by Linda Carson from ABC at the November General Meeting, and the wonderful Mistletoe Market in December.

After lunch some of the ladies took advantage of the location and decided to shop at the lovely UTC Mall. Good food, friends and shopping and a fun time was had by all!

A taste of Italy – No Passports Required

On Monday, August 3, 2015, ladies from LWRWC continued their virtual gourmet travels by sampling the delicious flavors of Italy at Valentino Pizzeria and Trattoria on Coopers Creek Blvd in Bradenton.

The ambience was warm and inviting and complemented the lighthearted mood as old and new friends gathered to “break bread.” Appropriately, our large table was adorned with baskets of delicious bread that we learned actually comes from NJ and is freshly baked in Florida.

The tempting menu featured traditional Italian dishes (including soups, salads, pastas, chicken or eggplant parmesan, chicken Marsala, to name a few) and the service was wonderful. We particularly appreciated that everything was authentic and made to order, making Valentino a great venue to enjoy fun, friendship and the taste of Italy.

Carrabbas Draws Record for LWRWC Lunch

The first monthly lunch of the new year [2014] got off to a rousing start on Monday, Feb 3, 2014. A record 30 members arrived for Italian cuisine at Carrabbas on University Parkway. This was the highest attendence since the inception of the monthly luncheons three years ago.

Members were happy to see former president Judy Heck looking well; Judy was accompanied by her husband Bob who seemed to enjoy lunch with the ladies.

Elaine Steinfurth, hostess of the luncheon program, dispensed with introductions because of the large crowd. Janet Stickel, LWRWC recording secretary, spoke to the members on upcoming events emphasizing the authors’s luncheon “Laugh Your Abs Off” to be held at The Francis on Feb 26 and “Fifty Shades of Gold”,  a jewlery swap on April 2. Both are new fundraising events for the Women’s Club charities efforts.

Members brought “Birthday Bags” which the club is collecting for the children of HOPE, one of the WC’s adopted charities for the year.

Despite torrential rains, a change of venue,  and summer vacations, eight members of the LWRWC met on Monday, July 1, 2013, at the Trattoria on LWR Main Street to keep the tradition alive.
